Did You Lose Your Dog In Tanjong Bungah? (Mah Chun Huey’s) 7th Apr 2012, by AnimalCare
From Huey:
I live in Tanjung Bungah/Fettes Park area, Penang. We saw this male dog roaming on the next street of our place last night, and we thought it’s someone’s dog. Tonight when I came back, Wah told me this fella has been roaming along our street for the entire evening. So I approached him, and I think he’s a lost dog. He has a chain, with a lock around his neck, and also a faded tag with Chinese word ‘Hock’ (福) on it (not very clear in the photo). Very friendly, even licked me...

Four Packs Of Dogfood For Mr Low 7th Apr 2012, by AnimalCare
Mr Low feeds about 20 odd stray dogs on a barren piece of land in North Port. About a week ago, someone discovered that a mother-dog had been poisoned and her 14 newborn puppies (12 males and 2 females) had been dumped in that area. Mr Low bought powdered milk and some milk bottles, enlisted the help of some Bangladeshi workers and the workers are now looking after the 14 puppies. It has been one week and they seem to be doing well.
We have offered to sponsor puppy-milk IF the puppies are not do...

Ref: http://myanimalcare.org/2012/ 04/07/please-read-the-labels-part-2/
A reader was very concerned and worried after reading the above two posts, so she called to ask if there were alternatives to using chemical flea control.
I said I’d read up as much as I can and share whatever I’ve found out, but before I do, kindly take note of the disclaimer for this post:

After They Had Their Breakfast… 7th Apr 2012, by AnimalCare
…it was time to cook another batch of food for Bobby and the cats this morning.
My lifesaver is the pressure cooker. It can cook up a whole batch of food in 15 minutes. I let it cool first, before deboning the chicken.
This round, I put: 4 pieces of chicken keel, 4 pieces of chicken thigh (all with the skin), chicken liver and heart, anchovies (ikan bilis), zucchini, celery, pumpkin, carrot, french beans, seaweed.
I read that celery has cooling properties that help with inflammation, li...

Ref: http://myanimalcare.org/2012/04/06/always-re ad-the-labels/
Maneki left this comment on my earlier post and in case some of you do not read the comments section, I feel a great urgency to share this:
I remember the time one of my friends liberally sprayed her cat with her dog’s flea spray, which contained permethrin — exceedingly toxic to cats. She found the cat frothing at the mouth and in a seizure. She raced him to the vet who immediately asked if she’d treated him for fleas latel...

Always Read The Labels And Always Use With Caution 6th Apr 2012, by AnimalCare
My friend related a really sad story, and the moral of the story is to remember how important it is to always read the label on any medication that we use, whether on ourselves or our animals.
I was at the vet’s today and saw a very miserable-looking purebred dog. I asked the owner what was wrong and she said she had just given her dog a tick bath and the next day, the dog could not walk, pee or poo. It had lost the mobility of its legs. After the owner came out from the examination room w...

Take A New One And Discard The Old? 6th Apr 2012, by AnimalCare
This was related to me a few days ago by an officer from a shelter. This lady had brought in a 7-year old pregnant dog to be surrendered at the shelter.
As per shelter policy, the officer explained that they could not take in pregnant dogs because the infants, if born in a shelter, would have a very high mortality rate as shelter conditions may not be very hygienic and sometimes there is outbreak of disease. Most of the time, infant animals die at the shelter.
Moreover, this dog was already 7 ye...
