No more than 30 vaquitas are remaining in the wild. On October 12, the Mexican government started a project to locate and place vaquitas in a sanctuary inside their habitat, the Upper Gulf of California, with the ultimate goal to return them to the wild. To be successful, this effort requires an urgent action to secure a gillnet-free environment. Thank you.
