Bunny’s News 16th Mar 2013, by AnimalCare
I removed Bunny’s e-collar after a few hours because I could see how uncomfortable it was for him and I do understand that stress does NOT help in recovery. In fact, it is detrimental to recovery. Moreover, I consulted another vet on Bunny’s case and he felt that the antibiotics ought to be enough. He didn’t even think the iodine and cream would be necessary. Cats will lick, he said. And the e-collar is very stressful on any animal. I agree on both counts.
By the way, the firs...

Vaccination For The Patio Family 16th Mar 2013, by AnimalCare
I had been battling with the idea of whether I should get the Patio Family vaccinated. After all, the cat community here is controlled and the area is not heavily populated, unlike my old neighbourhood. In that sense, my area is not what one would call a “high risk” environment, as opposed to a confined or heavily populated area (like in a shelter, for eg).
I’m sure you know about the anti-vaccination theory and how vaccinations do carry risks. Well, all vaccines do. I myself a...

Vets Need Holidays :-) 16th Mar 2013, by Dr Rayya's Online Veterinary Journal
I always feel terrible when I have to tell my clients I am going away as they unintentionally make me feel guilty about taking holidays. They ask questions like: Exactly when will you get back? How long are you away? Can I reach you when you are away?
I just always make sure they are fully aware of my impending holidays and if they have a patient with ongoing issues to contact one of my colleagues that I have assigned to look after their pet.
Well guess what. I only just got back from holi...

There is no worst moment (for us at least!) than when our dog breaks away from the leash. If you’re there when it happens, it’s important to know what to do to boost the chances of your dog returning to your side. Our natural instinct is to chase after our dog, in hopes of catching him before he scoots off and disappears. However, running after him only makes him think that you’re playing “catch me if you can”, making him run faster and further away from you! The panic and frustration ...

Be animal conscious: Don’t use glue traps!
Glue traps spell a death sentence for any animal who becomes caught in their sticky grasp. And it’s inevitably a cruel, slow death. So, please don’t use them!
One animal who had a lucky escape from a glue trap was Sniffer the plantain squirrel. Poor Sniffer became trapped on a glue board that had been set up to trap him in an office and, seeing his suffering, the office staff realised it was a mistake and called ACRES for help. It took 3 rou...

It Took FOUR People To Manage Bunny At The Vet’s 15th Mar 2013, by AnimalCare
The morning started with breakfast in bed for Bunny. His appetite is intact, so that’s not so worrying.
Bunny did not want to walk, so I carried him to the garden so that he could do his pee and poo.
He urinated, but quickly went to hide in the rattan trunk. Tiger kept him company.
The rattan trunk is all broken, but it’s the cats’ “safe haven”, so we kept it for them.
Broken to us, but it’s security for them.
On his own, he went to defecate. That...

When you’ve spotted an adorable squirrel scurrying around (in Singapore), have you been able you able to identity which species it is?
It’s not always an easy task, but this simple chart may help!
So, tell us, which of these squirrels have you seen before, and where? :)
And please remember, cute as they may be, squirrels should NEVER be kept as pets, and both capturing a wild squirrel or keeping one as a pet are illegal in Singapore. To find out why, visit http://www.acres.org.sg/wildlife...

What's there not to love about Gerbils? They're active, extremely inquisitive and are super duper friendly! Gerbils are social creatures and they do not like to live alone, so pairing them up would be ideal.
If you are interested in adopting these loveable Gerbils, the SPCA will be putting them up for adoption tomorrow at the AVA Roadshow this weekend at HDB Hub (Toa Payoh)!
