Strays In Phuket 2nd Aug 2011, by Second Chance
Strays in Phuket are so… well fed and healthy! And i don’t see the strays going through rubbish bin too. This is maybe because the locals there feed them, therefore there is no need for the strays to scour for food. Some of them are seen loitering in front of the shops. The locals and tourist are not bothered by them and they don’t go bothering people too. But then again, this is based on what I see in a few short days in Phuket. Animal abuse and cruelty happens everywhere and ju...

Karuna Has A Surprise Visitor 2nd Aug 2011, by AnimalCare
Adelyn Yap wrote to me offering to help look in on Karuna as well so that it won't be so taxing on any one person to keep checking up on her. So, Adelyn went a-visiting this evening, after work:Hi Dr. Chan,I went to temple ard 7pm just now. Did some praying and then went to the back n saw Karuna. I got her a rawhide bone and a toy. I wanted to take her for a walk but there is no one around for me to ask for permission. Perhaps it's dinner time. I changed her water (from the sink i assume) a...

I am sure many must have wondered what happened to the abused puppy with was found with a large wound on its back. The doctor treating it did say that it was a 50/50 chance of survival rate as Napoleon was still young and may not be able to stand the anesthesia. But I did find updates on this little fella up on the MDDB's blog.Napoleon is doing very well after the surgery to make its wound smaller. some skin from his neck area was taken to cover up some parts of the wound. here are some pictures...

Updates On Brownie - Blood Count Is 2.8 (that's Good!) 2nd Aug 2011, by AnimalCare
Winnie visited Brownie again this evening. The blood test results are promising - Brownie's white blood count is now 2.8! That's quite significant, but it still has to normalize to 6.0. Brownie ate by himself again this evening, which is really good.I've just checked with Dr Tan and he said he had given enough RetroMad1 for 7 days, so Brownie would have enough till then. We're all still praying hard for Brownie to recover fully. Whatever we have seen so far is promising.Keep praying, f...

Defying The Genetics!! 2nd Aug 2011, by Dr Rayya's Online Veterinary Journal
Meet Lilly & Rubin
I love this gorgeous pair! I bumped into them at the park once and Lilly would not have a bar of me. She would not get anywhere near me. On the contrary, Rubin was out and about, happily mingling with my dogs and just bouncing with joy.
Unfortunately a week after our park interaction, Rubin accidentally bumped his eye after being groomed and so was brought in to the clinic. Lilly accompanied him for support purposes.
In the consult room, they both gave me this typica...

Taking Karuna For A Walk, Etc. 2nd Aug 2011, by AnimalCare
After visiting Brownie, I drove back to Subang Jaya to visit Karuna. The temple administrator said Karuna has been barking all day yesterday. And, apparently, a wild dog had come into the temple grounds yesterday. Harsha said that was the dog who had bitten Karuna. Harsha will keep an eye on this. I cleaned up Karuna's place, and Samma (Harsha's friend) brought some rice for Karuna. Her appetite, as usual, is great! Yum, yum...dana food. I also bought her a can of dogfood, so I adde...

Visiting Brownie This Morning 2nd Aug 2011, by AnimalCare
I drove down to PJ to visit Brownie this morning and managed to speak with the vet. He said Brownie is "slightly better", has not vomited or had any diarrhoea (yay!) and the prognosis is now better. Brownie also ate by himself this morning. He is still on the RetroMad1, but according to the vet, Brownie had already started improving even before the drug was administered. The drips had helped. For us, we are not so interested as to which treatment or medicine helped - we just want Brownie to...

"Do We Have A Choice?" (new Book!) 2nd Aug 2011, by AnimalCare
I have written a new book, entitled "Do we Have a Choice?". It has 19 chapters and 18 are dedicated to encouraging the reader to EAT LESS MEAT; not become a vegetarian, but just to EAT LESS MEAT. One chapter talks about other forms of cruelty like vivisection, etc. The book has been reviewed by two people, and they have found it to be "non-dictative and non-condemning" (which I'm glad for as it was written in that manner too!).I already have a sponsor for the book and we will be going to print a...
