Trapped Puppy Rescued – A Very Heartwarming Puppy Tale! 14th Feb 2012, by AnimalCare
Just as we had our own trapped cat story (http://myanimalcare.org/2012/02/13/what-to-do-if- your-animal-is-trapped/) recently, which, fortunately, ended well (the cat was rescued), here’s another successful rescue story from the U.S.
It’s nice to know that in Michigan, one could call their Humane Society should rescue aid be needed for animals, and nicer to know that they have the humanpower, equipment and heart to respond.

What To Do When Bringing Animals For Vaccinations / Treatment 14th Feb 2012, by SPCA Sarawak
We had quite a few occasions when owners came from far away to the shelter to have their animals vaccinated or neutered and when asked about their pets' appetite and faeces conditon, lied that their pets were eating well and faeces were normal, ie. solid and slightly moist. Most of them did so because they did not want to have to come back another time but as a responsible and loving pet owner, please take note that it is VERY important that you tell the truth because injections like vaccin...

What To Do If Your Animal Is Trapped 13th Feb 2012, by AnimalCare
Last weekend, my friend, Mei Leng, called me late one night.
Mei Leng feeds her apartment cats and she has even got them spayed-neutered. One of these cats (one called “Michelle”) had apparently got trapped in the pump room and Mei Leng could not get anyone to open the door for her.
Mei Leng went out on her evening rounds to feed Michelle and friends, but when Michelle did not turn up, Mei Leng searched for her, and when her name was called, Michelle meowed very loudly.
The meowing w...

Reaching Out To The Young 13th Feb 2012, by AnimalCare
Last Sunday, I was invited by the Subang Jaya Buddhist Association to talk about kindness to animals to their Sunday School children.
Children?
Those little humans who’d prefer to run around all over the place?
Yes, those kind.
OK, they are our future, I remind myself. This, I must do.
However, talking to children has never been my forte, so if I’m invited to talk about anything else to children, I’d always recommend my friends who specialise in “handling” children,...

3 Dogs For Adoption (Lim Seng Hoe’s) 13th Feb 2012, by AnimalCare
From Seng Hoe (senghoe@gmail.com):
Would like to request your help to pass the word around your network if anyone is kind enough to adopt my brother’s dogs.
He migrated to Australia and he has 3 lovely dogs up for adoption.
The dogs are very friendly and have very good temperament with children as they grew up with my brother’s 2 young kids.
We tried to adopt one of the dogs but due to my dad’s sickness, we had to give up after a while as taking care of my dad takes up all ...

The Gang Goes For A Garden Tour 13th Feb 2012, by AnimalCare
Bobby gets a walk-around every evening nowadays, and the cats were looking longingly too, so we decided to let them out. For Cow, Bunny, Tiger and Cleo, it would be their first time out into the garden.
Bobby’s dinner. This is the only way he’d eat.
Pole and Indy are outdoor “regulars” by now.
By the way, today, I found Indy on top of our fridge, which is at least 6 foot high. How on earth did he jump up? But there he was, proudly strutting on top of the fri...

Meeting Daisy Duck, The Mighty Thor, Dewey The Librarian And Their Guardian-Angel 13th Feb 2012, by AnimalCare
Last night, the fosterer (who requested anonymity AND is doing a marvelous job) wrote to say Daisy had taken a turn for the worst. We were all so worried because we know sometimes, kittens just take a turn for the worst and go down very, very fast and there is nothing much we can do.
I know exactly how the fosterer was feeling because I have experienced that before, too, with Jelly, who despite all my efforts, including 3am trips to vet’s (under emergency call-back) for sub-cut fluids, she...

Second Subsidy For Silver, Sporo Cat (Elaine Tan’s) 13th Feb 2012, by AnimalCare
We have banked in our second subsidy of RM262.50 for Silver, Elaine’s rescued sporo-cat. This brings our total subsidy to RM525.00, which has already exceeded our maximum of RM500.00.
Since it is the nature of sporotrichosis that treatment takes many months, we have provided more than our maximum of RM500.00 for Silver.
Elaine says the vet advised her that Silver may need treatment for another 4 months. Each month, the cost is RM750.
For the next claim, Elaine will be applying to another f...

Lost Dog, Looking For His Owner (Erica Jeremiah’s) 13th Feb 2012, by AnimalCare
From Erica Jeremiah (erica@kampongkravers.com):
Dear Dr., your friend, Connie, came across my advert on PetFinder.my and she requested for me to send a copy of the Dog’s picture so that you can also help spread it out. It has been 2weeks, and the owner had not come forth to reclaim him. The dog is currently being fostered by a good neighbour who is not really well to do and I fear for the burden that is being inflicted onto the Good Samaritan.
I hope you can help us on this. Attached is a co...

Today was a very exciting day for us- the debut of a brand new ACRES skit about threats to rainforest animals! The skit is part of our HEAL programme for primary schools. We were delighted to welcome students and teachers from ISS International School to the AWRC to watch the skit and even join in, learning together about threats to rainforest animals and how we can help to protect them from harm. For more information about our educational programmes, please contact amy@acres.org.sg

Updates On 13th Feb 2012 13th Feb 2012, by Animal Concerns Research & Education Society (ACRES)
RWS forum letter in The Sunday Times yesterday. RWS stated previously that "no calves or lactating mothers were among our dolphins that were humanely and sustainably collected". Dolphins are highly social animals living in a close knit family unit. If no calves or lactating mothers were collected, can RWS urgently clarify what was done to these individuals? Were they forcefully removed and separated from their families?

Daisy Is Doing Better This Morning (from The Fosterer) 13th Feb 2012, by AnimalCare
Ref: http://myanimalcare.org/2012/02/12/little-daisy-ne eds-our-prayers/
Thank you, everyone, for your prayers. Daisy is doing better this morning (aren’t we all so relieved!) and the fosterer is bringing all three of them to our vet today for a second opinion.
From the fosterer:
Daisy is a bit better than last night. She drank a bit of milk this morning. She started meow, compared to last night being motionless. I made Rice Socks for her to put inside her sleeping pot. I have this huge me...

Dog In Critical Condition Passes Away (Shirley’s) 13th Feb 2012, by AnimalCare
Ref: http://myanimalcare.org/2012/02/12/urgent-dog-bloo d-donor-required-shirley-wongs/
The vet just informed me that the dog passed away last night, one hour after the blood results came back. His blood count was 9.1. A normal reading is 44, and any reading below 12 cannot sustain life anymore. The vet said the dog could not have possibly got into this condition overnight. It must have been a gradual deterioration.
The rescuer, Shirley, called me last Saturday (4th Feb) to seek assistance and I...
