A Heartwarming Fish Story
5th Feb 2012, by AnimalCare

I seldom write about fish because we don’t deal with the fish in the oceans nor those in people’s aquariums, but today, my friend, Kon, shared a very touching fish story with me. Kon’s mechanic keeps fish in an aquarium. At the same time, this mechanic looks after his aged mother who had had a stroke. On the day his mother passed away, one of his fish too had a stroke. Never heard of fish having a stroke, eh? Well, never have I, but apparently, the fish did, because it kind of ...

Surviving Snakebite Against All The Odds…
5th Feb 2012, by Dr Rayya's Online Veterinary Journal

What a fascinating week it has been… It hasn’t been as busy which is really nice for a change. We all took advantage of the situation and turned it into BRING YOUR PETS TO WORK week. Here are Licorice & Kay, owned by Karen (one of our vet nurses) I had discovered a lump growing on my own dog’s stump. Poor Shepo. He had been licking his stump excessively and not allowing me to fully assess it. He loves to shake his stump so I thought he must have knocked it on something....

5th Feb 2012, by SPCA Penang

SPCA Penang Committee will be meeting at its earliest to respond to the request of MDDB for partaking possession of a dog from our shelter, a dog attended to by SPCA (Pg) from a house at Jln. Sri Bahari at the request of the property owner. SPCA(Pg) regrets the manner in which this matter has been handled by MDDB in which it has allowed its facebook to be used to work up publicity against a organisation in existence for 64 years attending to animal welfare. Language unbecoming of professionali...

Sad Reflections On The Untimely Demise Of The Loyal Dog In Penang
5th Feb 2012, by AnimalCare

Ref: http://myanimalcare.org/2012/02/05/sad-end-t o-two-loyal-dogs-in-penang/ So previously, 2 dogs were euthanised in Penang because they attacked a tourist in the course of doing their duty in protecting their territory. Never mind what they were doing, never mind intention, they killed a man, so they were sentenced to death for it. They were dogs. They had no chance to speak up for themselves. Sounds like plain old bullying of the defenseless, if you ask me. News: http://thestar.com.my/news...

Subsidy For Pelvic-Fractured Cat (Doreen Yam’s)
5th Feb 2012, by AnimalCare

Sometime last year, our vet told me about this one case of a rescued cat from a factory, possibly needing a diaphragmatic hernia surgery. Our vet asked if we had the funds to help out. I said I would need to speak with the rescuer and yes, we can contribute a subsidy. I visited the cat once at the clinic, and the vet said he preferred to observe the cat for a little while more before going in for the surgery. I did not hear from the rescuer at all….until last week when I found a subsidy fo...

After 16 Years….are You STILL A Fan Of Calvin & Hobbes?
5th Feb 2012, by AnimalCare

Allow me this indulgence, my friends, on a Sunday morning. I am a great fan of Calvin & Hobbes. I love Calvin, I love Susie and I love Hobbes!!  The comic strip by Bill Watterson is so philosophical and full of truths, but told in a simple and humorous way. I love that style! And, I have ALL the books, too. Some torn and tattered after years of reading! Did you know Bill Watterson decided to hang up his paintbrushes and retire on 31st Dec 1995 and the last C&H comic strip was published?...

The Shah Alam Cat-Family Is Safe And Sound Now – A Lovely Story
5th Feb 2012, by AnimalCare

Ref: http://myanimalcare.org/2012/02/03/mother-ca t-and-3-more-kittens-left-in-shah-alam-koos/ On Friday, I personally asked Maslinda if she would have the space to take in this mother-cat and her (remaining) 3 kittens. I said we would provide for their medical needs and food (to be fair to Mas, of course). And, Maslinda (bless her kind heart), said YES! But could someone please bring the family to her in PJ? So, on Friday evening, Koo (who alerted us all to this family) brought the family to t...

Kitten Doing Well! Updates From Shalyn Loh
5th Feb 2012, by AnimalCare

Ref: http://myanimalcare.org/2012/02/03/a-first-t ime-rescuer-in-the-making/ Finally, some good news from Shalyn: Morning Dr. Chan Kah Yein, Here are some pictures of the kitten, who seems to be doing well! She’s definitely getting more and more energetic, for sure! For a cat that could only lie on its side the first day I found her, she’s at least trying to sit up and even managed to stumble abit on all fours – an accomplishment for her, I would say! I’m most worried no...

Sad End To One Loyal Dog In Penang
5th Feb 2012, by AnimalCare

A stand corrected in this earlier post. Only one dog was euthanised. The other is awaiting a similar fate unless someone adopts it. The write-up below has been corrected from its previous one. Ref: http://myanimalcare.org/2012/01/30/ever -loyal-till-the-end/ The original article: http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2012/1/ 30/nation/10563799&sec=nation News: http: //thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2012/2/5/nat ion/10681643&sec=nation It is heart-breaking news for me that...

Today’s Ang Paws Furrez – A Fun-Filled Event!
4th Feb 2012, by AnimalCare

Mary and I set off from my house at 8.30am this morning. We had already loaded all our stuff into her car the day before so we were all ready. Never knew there was such a beautiful place here for mountain bikers and hikers!  Soon, Chooi Chooi and her Casa team arrived.  Still misty…how lovely. That’s Terry, speaking with Richar...

OMG!! Would You Believe This??
4th Feb 2012, by AnimalCare

Ms CW Lee left this comment on my blog post about us winning the Sunsuper Prize by garnering 4319 votes: 4319 made us the winner but guess what?..on Wed came out in SportsToto starter too.  I became $500 richer but feels the animals deserve it even more, so already banked in $500 + $200 (chipped in by my friend Mr G.L Chan) into your PBB account. Like the song goes ” I feel good…na..na..na..na! ” ps :  Im not a big time gambler, just buy 4 fun only I’m completely flabbe...
