Pole STILL In Cage At 12.48pm 10th Jan 2012, by AnimalCare
I’m almost going to freak out already, worrying if Pole made another escape attempt from the cage, but phew! She did not not.
While teaching, I did worry. What if something unexpected happened? Like maybe, someone left the sidegate open, and Cow leads everyone out, and they were now marching down the road, in single file, all seven of them, trying to find the way back to the old neighbourhood. When that vision appeared in my mind, I freaked out.
A friend told me when he was a child, he w...

I’m…dreaming Of A….big Cage? 10th Jan 2012, by AnimalCare
Sung to the tune of White Christmas:
I’m dreaming of a big cage…
The one that’ll keep Pole safe.
Where there’s space to stretch,
And platforms to jump on,
To keep her away from the rooftops…
Sorry folks, I’ve gone slightly cuckoo, so please excuse the extremely lame lyrics up there….
Yups, this is my dream…
Waiting for the 3-tiered cage and hope that’ll solve my problems once and for all.
Also, I managed to plead for the contractor to come ...

Possible Trouble? 10th Jan 2012, by AnimalCare
I hope not!
Guess who is visiting?
Huge and formidable, isn’t he?
He has what I would call the “classic” elderly tomcat look.
Well, hello Mr Cat. Glad to meet your acquaintance. We just moved into your neighbourhood.
Er…I hope you’re too big to come in through the gutter, Mr Cat. Please don’t, ‘coz we have seven cats here and you’re much bigger than all of them. Why, you’re even bigger than our dog, Bobby.
We mean no harm or disr...

The Nightmare Begins Again…at The Break Of Dawn (but Only For 10 Mins!) 10th Jan 2012, by AnimalCare
Pole escaped again…
We thought we had it all figured out?
No, Pole is always one step ahead. And she’s smart and devious, too.
This morning, everyone had breakfast and Pole had hers in the cage. After that, I cleaned her litter-box and let her out to stretch.
Last night, when I let her out, she went to the sidegate and looked at the gap and the gate at what we thought was her escape route, or rather, what she wanted us to think.
But we were all fooled.
That was not her escape route.

The Power Of Thoughts 10th Jan 2012, by AnimalCare
I thought (!) these came most appropriately in light of my experience today. I hope you find them useful too.
We are what our thoughts have made us; so take care about what you think. Words are secondary. Thoughts live; they travel far.
– Swami Vivekananda
See things as you would have them be instead of as they are.
- Robert Collier
This brings to mind something I’ve learnt in life which has got me through many adversities – Prepare for the worst but work for the best. I re...

Supper At Bunny’s Place 10th Jan 2012, by AnimalCare
The cats got up after their evening siesta and since I’m still awake marking papers and doing the laundry, and since I’ve just cooked a batch of food for tomorrow, why not give everyone a supper treat in celebration of Pole’s return?
Chicken and some other minced meats given by a friend, carrot, celery, hairy cucumber, a bit of sweet potato and pumpkin. An honest-to-goodness home-cooked meal.
It took some “rehab” to get the clan back to eating home-cooked again ...

Pregnant Cat In Need Of Help (Tjong Yen Chian’s) 9th Jan 2012, by AnimalCare
From Tjong Yen Chian (azlan_yenchian@hotmail.com):
Hi, Dr Chan.
I saw this cat at Perhentian Dengkil with the Restaurant name Satay Kajang. I just got back from Singapore and I have no cage, box or anything. I have suggested to my parents maybe we take it home to pass it to one of the rescuer to help out but then my work is limited. My parents didn’t allow it and just say to help pray for it. It seems that it will deliver anytime soon and plus a deform front leg. Is there anyone who can h...

Medical Subsidy For Fitri, Another Sporo-Cat (Myza Nordin’s) 9th Jan 2012, by AnimalCare
There is also another sporo-cat, Fitri, under the responsibility of Myza Nordin, currently undergoing treatment at the same clinic where Silver is boarded.
Ref: http://myanimalcare.org/2011/12/28/ fitri-the-sporo-cat-myza-nordins/
We have subsidised RM150, which is 20% of last month’s bill of RM750. Myza has applied to three funds – AnimalCare, SCRATCH and PetFinder.my and we have agreed on a joint subsidy of 60%. Our 20% share has already been paid out to Myza.

Medical Subsidy For Silver, Sporo-Cat (Elaine Tan’s) 9th Jan 2012, by AnimalCare
Ref: http://myanimalcare.org/2011/11/25/updates-o n-silver-the-sporo-cat-elaines/
We have subsidised RM262.50 for Silver’s treatment, which is 35% of the bill for the last month. Since Elaine has applied to SCRATCH as well, we have worked out a joint total of 70% considering the fact that Elaine is a student and she runs a small business to support herself. Elaine had initially requested for a total of 95% from both AnimalCare and SCRATCH but that would really be stretching it.
Our 35% su...

Pole Is Home, Safe And Sound (7.15pm) 9th Jan 2012, by AnimalCare
No sooner had I written that previous post where I was resigned to the fact that maybe Pole did not wish to come home anymore (until she’s had enough of her freedom) than I heard Pole mewing and the sound was very near this time.
I quickly rushed out and found Pole had jumped onto our next door neighbour’s roof! That means she KNOWS how to get from the back neighbour to our next-door neighbour!
Hmm…all that pretending on the roof was not for real? Never mind, just come back, Po...

“I See You, But I Don’t Want To Come Home…yet” 9th Jan 2012, by AnimalCare
At 6.45pm:
Nothing could entice her to come to us. Not food, not Tabs’ feather toy, nothing. She just sat there, looking at us, and after a few minutes, retired to the niche in the roof.
My husband says Pole is a free spirit and does not like being confined. She has now found a place where she can be free and away from all the other cats, and she likes it there.
She might come down when she is hungry, or maybe she won’t, I don’t know.
It’s been 8 hours of frustration (bef...

Pole Refuses To Come Down (6.40pm) 9th Jan 2012, by AnimalCare
I spotted Pole on the roof again just now, so I quickly called her.
She mewed and walked down the roof, but stopped.
As you can see from the photos, she just strutted on the roof, rubbed herself on the tiles and refuses to go to my husband. It was a classic case of “so near yet so far”. I am now not sure if she is too scared to come down or she simply refuses to come to us because she is tired of being confined and wants her freedom.
She finally ...

Pole Is Still On The Roof (5.40pm) 9th Jan 2012, by AnimalCare
I think Pole is probably sleeping inside that niche in the neighbour’s roof. It is 5.40pm now, and it’s going to be dark soon.
We’ve put a plank from the gutter of the neighbour’s roof to our wall. If only Pole could see this as a way back, it might work. But as far as I can figure out, she comes only as far as the roof and stops at the gutter, too scared to go any further.
I hope she comes out soon (from that niche). The neighbour has closed all his windows and is no...

Pole Was Spotted Several Times…on The Neighbour’s Roof 9th Jan 2012, by AnimalCare
Since about 2pm, when Cathy came over, we spotted Pole on the neighbour’s roof – that’s the back neighbour, one house away.
Pole was walking on the roof, trying very hard to come down, but was too scared to jump.
Here she is, on the neighbour’s roof.
Then, she walked up the roof and landed up on the other side. We quickly went to the neighbour’s house and asked permission to take Pole back.
Pole on the edge of the neighbour’s roof. She could have easily ...
