Fund-Raising With Chinese New Year Cookies
3rd Jan 2012, by AnimalCare

Come Chinese New Year and it will be the season for eating cookies and giving cookies as a token of welcoming the Lunar New Year. Our friend (and volunteer at events), Ooi Siew Ee, has very generously and graciously sourced HOME-MADE cookies for us to sell as part of our fund-raising efforts. These cookies are home-made with SCS butter. There is no animal lard. There are three varieties:  RM20 per jar  RM20 per box (This is butter cookies coated with chocolate)  RM24 per box To place your ...

How Infuriating…!!
3rd Jan 2012, by AnimalCare

I seldom lose my cool (even when dealing with………..) but this does it! This person brought a cat for neutering at our panel vet under our FULL sponsorship today (not that she cannot afford it, since she works) AND makes another appointment for another two cats under our sponsorship for another day WITHOUT asking me if we can pay for it. Our slot tomorrow has already been booked by another rescuer who went through the proper channel through me. Now, this person barges in and make...

Sunrise…and Bobby And Cats Arrive At Bunny’s Place
3rd Jan 2012, by AnimalCare

This morning was the “big” move, that is, moving Bobby and the cats over to the new house before the movers turn up to move out the rest of the house. The cats came back for food and I fed them first. Then, one by one, I put them into their respective carriers. Cleo put up a fight and was the last to be in. We almost thought we’d have to leave her behind and come back to get her this evening.  All in carriers…except Cleo. Finally, we got ourselves loaded into the car. B...

The Games That Tabs Plays
2nd Jan 2012, by AnimalCare

We’ve been going in and out of the house a lot in the past week because there is just so much to do for the new house. But each time we go out, Tabs would be waiting to dash out of the door. My husband devised a method to keep her occupied with a game so that we can sneak out… Watch… This is called “Find the Feather”. Method: Drop feather through hold into tall box.  Here’s Tabs trying to retrieve the feather.  She uses her paws and claws.  Then, she use...

Getting Ready To Move
2nd Jan 2012, by AnimalCare

It’s been a month since Bunny started behaving strangely, ie. looking not his usual self and sleeping only upstairs. This morning, he came down for breakfast with Bobby. Bunny likes the home-cooked food, and for the past month, he has not asked for snacks in between. It does make me wonder if he’s trying to lose weight, as that’s what the vet said he must do. Even Dr Susanna said Bunny is obese and should lose weight lest he might become diabetic. Dr S also said by eating ho...

Can’t Please Everyone…
2nd Jan 2012, by AnimalCare

I know the New Year should not be a time for lamentation, but for me, every day (no, every moment), we make a fresh clean start and it is reality that every day, we will encounter problems. And we attempt, with our best possible efforts, to SOLVE the problem. But some problems just cannot be solved. In such cases, we have to change how we look at the so-called “problem” so that it doesn’t become a problem anymore. A few days ago, I was communicating with someone who asked for h...

The Doggies That We Lost
2nd Jan 2012, by Second Chance

Case Number 1A big Bull dog was dumped at our shelter by one irresponsible person who claimed he rescued him from the street. This poor dog was obviously malnourished , skinny with ribs protruding only. He ate lots and lots of kibbles when we first fed him and he drank lots of water too. We are not sure what the owner did to him, but he sure looked pitiful. We called Dr lee to come and check on his health condition, he was distemper negative. He stayed only a few days in our shelter , the last 2...

Helping Kim And Her Dogs
2nd Jan 2012, by AnimalCare

We seem to be starting this year with happy news and that’s really encouraging. Recently, we subsidised the spay-neuter of eight of Kim’s dogs at her shelter. Kim is a single lady looking after 30+ dogs including a paralysed one. Ref: http://myanimalcare.org/2011/12/14/7-fe male-and-1-male-dogs-spayed-neutered-kims/ KT Tan read about Kim’s selfless efforts and decided he wanted to help her out with food and other needs for her shelter. Arrangements were made and KT’s gen...

Books for Animal Lovers: Mutts by Sharon Montose What’s the leading dog breed in the world? Well, of course, it isn’t a “breed” at all. The top dog, in terms of the numbers, is the humble mutt. And mutts—in their infinitely quirky, oddball, all-mixed-up variety—have a very special place in all our hearts. Even so, mutts’ contributions to dogdom—and to the millions of human beings whose lives they share and enrich—have tended to remain uncelebrated. With Mutts, pet photograph...

Fifi Is Adopted!! (Lee’s)
2nd Jan 2012, by AnimalCare

This would be one of the highlights of the New Year!! On 21st Dec 2011, a lady by the name of Ah Yoke called me regarding an owner who was about to throw her two-year old Husky out on the streets because she (the owner) did not have time to look after the dog anymore. I told Ah Yoke to get me a photograph from the owner, and with her consent, I will blog for adopters. However, the owner never got back to me. I normally do not blog unless there is a photograph, but this time, I made an exception,...

Rescuers Are Actually Happy…I’m Glad!
1st Jan 2012, by AnimalCare

Ref: http://myanimalcare.org/2011/12/30/new-polic y-from-4th-january-2012/ I had thought the new policy above would be met with complaints from rescuers but so far, my fears have been unfounded. The few people whom I spoke to say it’s good to revise the policies to make rescuers more responsible. This morning, I called one of the rescuers who have sought our sponsorship for many of his rescues. He doesn’t read English and is not internet-savvy, so I thought I should explain our new ...
