Injured Dog Needs Fosterer As Soon As Possible 21st Jul 2011, by AnimalCare
Myza has just rescued an injured 2-week old puppy. The puppy has a back injury and the vet has stitched her up. How the puppy came to be so is a sad case of tug-of-war between the mother of this puppy and another mother-dog who had just lost her newborn litter. This second mother-dog came to snatch the puppy away from her mother (probably thinking the puppy is hers) and the mother grabbed her puppy back resulting in a tug-of-war which almost ripped the puppy into two.The puppy's back is tor...

Super Bruno 21st Jul 2011, by Dr Rayya's Online Veterinary Journal
Meet Bruno, the friendliest Maremma I have ever met. He is living proof that any breed of dog is capable of being well socialised! This champ is one of my fave patients.
He loves coming into the vet clinic and is usually busting with excitement to see everyone especially me because I have brain washed him with heaps of liver treats.
About a month and a half ago, I was called out afterhours to examine him as he was just hit by a car. His poor dad witnessed the whole thing. They brought him stra...

If You Need Our Spay-Neuter Help, Please Send A Photograph Of The Animal 21st Jul 2011, by AnimalCare
Spay-neuter is normally not an emergency case. My request to rescuers who ask for our spay-neuter help is to please send me a photograph of the animal, either by email or mms. This is because our accounts are audited and I need the photographs to account for each case done. Sometimes, by the time I finish work and reach the clinic, the animal has already been discharged. We have two clinics in Subang Jaya and I have to attend to both. So, here's how we work:1. Rescuer writes/calls...

The vet suggested that Tommy be put down but Norsidah refused, so Tommy was put on drips....

Karuna Has Been Previously Spayed 21st Jul 2011, by AnimalCare
Today was Karuna's scheduled spaying. Would you believe it? The vets opened her up and found that she had already been previously spayed. That could only mean two things - either a rescue group had got her spayed and released her OR she is an abandoned pet. But, Karuna, being old, did not take the anaesthesia well at all, so the vets quickly removed the gas and brought her out of the sedation. But while they had opened her up, they saw that one kidney does not look very healthy. This...

The Dog Without Her Nose (MDDB's Case) 21st Jul 2011, by AnimalCare
I braved myself this afternoon and went to visit the dog whose nose had been lopped off by some evil human in Semenyih. Wani (of MDDB) had called me about the dog yesterday when the vet suggested that the dog be put down. I said she could always request that the vet treat the dog instead. Vets have their oath to uphold and one of them is that animals do not suffer, so vets have their own idea about how animals should be treated. We just have to respect that but we can agree to disagree, an...

Be Wary Of Fraudulent Emails 21st Jul 2011, by AnimalCare
This post has nothing to do with animals, but I thought some people might want to know about fraudulent emails supposedly sent by our banks. A few days ago, I received an email from m2u. It looked absolutely authentic, EXACTLY like the usual email alert from m2u informing you that someone had banked in a certain amount into your account. Pls see below. The email said a Goh Chin Chay had banked in RM200 into my personal MBB account for Victorine (Jacinta and Kelly's shelter in Ipoh, th...

Flourescent Corneal Ulcer In Canine 21st Jul 2011, by Dr Rayya's Online Veterinary Journal
flourescent corneal ulcer in canine, a photo by Rayya The Vet on Flickr.
Via Flickr:
For a thorough eye examination, we must always do a fluorescein stain test. This stain will be taken up if there is a corneal ulceration. Using a UV light, you can detect the corneal ulcer as it will fluoresce bright green. The green circle in this dog is a corneal ulcer!!!

Updates On Stuart 21st Jul 2011, by AnimalCare
Devi texted last night to say someone sent her milk for Stuart but it isn't Pets Own Milk. She did not mention the brand, but I hope it is suitable for Stuart. However, she said Stuart did not want to take the milk. Not drinking is a very worrisome sign for little kittens. They go down very quickly. Yesterday, Punitha had already found a volunteer fosterer who was willing to drive all the way to Brickfields to pick up Stuart, foster him until he is stronger and return him to Devi, but...
