3 MORE DAYS LEFT TO SHOW YOUR WARMTH TO THE ANIMALS!
We still need your help to meet the target!
Here is the story of one of the animals you’ll be helping:
Last Christmas was a special day not only for our rescue team, but also for a tiny fellow barely 40 cm long.
The ACRES Wildlife Rescue Team was called when someone spotted a snake in their house, sneaking under under a sliding door. When the team reached the location, they were surprised to find that the snake was not a native species...

AWRC UPDATE: POOR ERNIE IS NOT TOO WELCOME IN HER NEW HOME…YET!
Meet Ernie, a newly rescued giant Asian pond turtle…and Audrey, who was not too keen on meeting her!
This week, we brought Ernie outside to our Main Sanctuary Area after she’d completed her mandatory quarantine period, with hopes of putting her together with the other giant Asian pond turtles. Unfortunately, one turtle stood in her way: Audrey! Audrey may be small and shy around humans, but she is one big bully when it come...

A VERY SPECIAL CHINESE NEW YEAR REUNION!
Just like children, baby macaques can find themselves in trouble when they are not careful in the midst of play.
On the morning of Chinese New Year Eve, a baby macaque was rescued and re-united with her family after getting her hand entangled in some construction netting at Bukit Timah Nature Reserve. NUS researcher Joys Tan alerted the ACRES Wildlife Rescue Team when she heard distress calls from a troop that she was studying.
We thank Joys Tan and ...

OUR AWESOME ANIMAL BENEFACTORS!
Today, we want to thank the donors who have continuously supported the animals quietly all these years. They are our ANIMAL BENEFACTORS!
Today, Stubby, Venilla, Spongebob, Cyclops and Kanmani are living happily, enjoying good food, and are free to express their natural behaviours in naturalistic enclosures. And it would not be possible if it wasn’t for the donors who adopted them. So a huge thank you to all you ACRES Animal Benefactors (you know who you are!) ...

WILD ANIMALS ARE NOT PETS
In Singapore it is illegal to keep most wild animals as pets, and for good reasons:
1. Wild animals do not make suitable pets. Wild animals who are kept as pets usually experience poor welfare, as it is very difficult to provide for their complex needs in our homes (e.g. their behavioural, social and dietary needs). It’s also impossible to recreate their vast and varied natural habitats.
2. Many exotic pets are abandoned by their owners to die a slow death from st...

OPENING YOUNG HEARTS AND MINDS TO THE WORLD OF ANIMALS
Do you remember what it was like to be a child, learning something new and surprising? However young they may be, children open their eyes (and hearts) to animals, almost instinctively. It was such a wondrous pleasure watching these little ones staying so focused while learning how to care for animals, during our special HEAL programme for kindergartens!
When we recently visited the children at Swallows and Amazons kindergarten, we opened ...

Dogs Know That Smile On Your Face 20th Feb 2015, by Animal Concerns Research & Education Society (ACRES)
ANIMAL SENTIENCE: DOGS KNOW THAT SMILE ON YOUR FACE!
For those of us who live with canine companions, we’re pretty sure that many times they know what we’re thinking and feeling.
Now, there is convincing scientific evidence to back this up.
According to a new study, dogs can indeed tell the difference between happy and angry human faces. The discovery represents the first solid evidence that an animal other than humans can discriminate between emotional expressions in another species, th...

HELP ANIMALS THIS FESTIVE SEASON! MEET GARNET….
This tiny fellow here is Garnet, an African spurred tortoise, native to Africa.
Sadly, he is just one of thousands of tortoises captured from the wild and smuggled around the world to supply the illegal pet trade. Most of them die along to way, and those who survive get sold to buyers who frequently are not be prepared to care for them permanently, as these beautiful creatures can often live much longer than we can.
Garnet was found abandoned...

HAPPY LUNAR NEW YEAR!
Gong Xi Fa Cai to all our supporters!
We’re about to enter the year of the goat!
Goats are very sociable, intelligent and curious animals! And, just like a human mother and baby, mother goats and their babies - known as kids - share a very close bond. They are able to recognise each other's call the moment the mother goat has given birth to her baby!
Were you born in the year of the goat? People say that those born in the year of the goat are intelligent, creative, a ...
