August 12th marks World Elephant Day 🐘
Elephants are the world’s largest land animals, with male African elephants weighing up to 6 tonnes.
Elephants are essential in balancing forest and savanna ecosystems, but their habitats are shrinking. African elephant habitat has declined by over 50% since 1979, while Asian elephants are restricted to just 15% of their original range.

International Day For The World's Indigenous Peoples - Iban 10th Aug 2018, by WWF Malaysia
I'm from a Dayak tribe called Iban. I’m proud that our culture is heavily influenced by nature. Growing up, there was a popular Iban magazine called ‘Nendak’, named after the white-rumped shama, one of our travel omen birds.
In my culture, young men are encouraged to travel and see the world to gain knowledge and experience. We call this ‘bejalai’, which means ‘to walk’.
I'm grateful that my parents allow their daughter to embrace this tradition too. I've been fortunate to work ...

This International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples, let's take a moment to celebrate Malaysia's unsung wildlife warriors, the Orang Asli. More often than not, the Orang Asli are the eyes and ears for our conservation efforts, especially in areas like the Belum-Temengor Forest Complex.
WWF-Malaysia's tiger conservation team works hand in hand with the indigenous communities here to protect the Malayan tiger, which is critically endangered.
The Orang Asli to us, are truly guardians of th...

World's Indigenous Peoples Day 9th Aug 2018, by WWF Malaysia
My late father used ‘putikaan’, a traditional method to determine the best time to go fishing, especially if he had to stay at sea for weeks. It was a dangerous affair with strong waves and winds, and unstable income due to dwindling fish stocks.
To me, being indigenous means living close to nature. As Bajau Ubian, we are very connected to the sea.
We are fishing communities, we build houses at coastal areas and we are born and raised by the seaside.
Because of this, I committed to con...
