Last week animal rights campaigner Yelena Simakina released undercover footage of street dogs being burned in furnaces in an effort to cleanse the streets of the Azerbaijani town of Baku in advance of the upcoming regional Olympic events known at the European Games, scheduled for Ju...

Rescued magpie becomes lifelong friend with family that saved its life. How sweet!
Birds are intelligent and affectionate, and that includes the cute chickens and ducks too. If we can give them a chance to be our lifelong friends, they'd certainly reciprocate with lots of love and joy!

GARNET IS ON THE MEND!
We just wanted to share with you one of the happy moments here at ACRES!
Do you remember Garnet, the tiny African spurred tortoise? He’s one of the animals you raised funds for so that he gets a new enclosure while he recovers.
This is a short video of him finally eating! He worried us when he stopped eating for a while (many rescued animals suffer from poor appetite as a result of their abandonment ordeal and ill-health), but thankfully he has started again! We do ...

Cow Opens His Eye…a Wee Bit 15th Mar 2015, by AnimalCare
Cow spent the whole of yesterday on his springy bed, clearly quite upset about having to wear the e-collar. With some difficulty, we managed to put his eyedrops as instructed by the vet – the eyedrops every 2 hours and the ointment at night, before we went to bed.
The main ingredient in Cow’s eyedrops and ointment is chloramphenicol. Caregivers must be aware of certain precautions when administering this medication: http://csu-cvmbs.colostate.edu/vth/Do cuments/pharmacy-chloramphen...

Helping Old Grandma To Spay Her Dogs 15th Mar 2015, by Second Chance
These 2 female dogs belong to an old Grandma in Hulu Langat. We helped to catch the dogs for spaying few days ago. It was hard trying to catch them as the fencing in the house has many "holes" and they could escape easily.
Luckily we managed to get them within half an hour. After the spaying, we will put them back to the house and grandma need not worry about any unwanted puppies anymore.
We would like to thank those who have contributed towards our neutering program, of which the primary ai...

THE CAMPAIGN IS WORKING!
Animal Lovers Aim to Protect Dogs From European Games
____________________________________________ _
Tremendous thanks to all of you who are making your voices heard. The European Games committee Facebook page is filling up with comments and reviews from many of you who strongly object to the killing of street dogs in Baku in preparation for the upcoming event. Can we make sure that Games President Patrick Hickey doesn't turn a blind eye to what's happening?

In Memory Of Small Seng, And Next - We Have To Help Mandy! 15th Mar 2015, by Noah's Ark CARES
We always wish that every rescue story will have a happy ending just like in fairy tales – “to live happily every after”. We really wish but sadly, this is far from the truth. Amidst the cases we have recently, Small Seng (as he was named by the factory) was one which we could only helplessly see him fade away, despite medical aid being rendered. Perhaps it was too late.We first saw Small Seng a year plus ago when prowling the streets of an industrial estate in the west. We t...

KEEP THEM WILD AND FREE: STAR TORTOISE
This is the second segment of our series on the illegal keeping of wild animals as exotic pets in Singapore.
Indian star tortoises are coveted as pets because of the attractive star-like patterns on their shells. They may grow up to 15 inches in length and weigh up to 7 kg. They are at risk of becoming extinct in the wild if the trade in individuals captured from the wild to be sold as pets continues.
ACRES has rescued scores of Indian star tortoises f...

FRANK CAN WALK AGAIN!
Joyful Recovery as Paralyzed Street Dog Can Walk Once More
_____________________________________________ _____
Frank was hit by a car a few weeks ago in Bosnia. Luckily a girl found him and started calling for help. She knocked on the door of her teacher, asking what to do.
"I got a call from my friend saying her student had found a dog in the middle of the road and he can't move," Suzana Demiraca told us. "I took him in. People helped locally to get the X-rays, food and ...

A TNR Success Story 14th Mar 2015, by AnimalCare
Koo shares this: http://www.animalsheltering.org/resources/m agazine/nov-dec-2013/asm-novdec-2013/the-challenge -of-a-rural-tnr.html
In October 2012, six months after Jordan wrapped up the Ashford TNR program, OCAR opened its new brick-and-mortar sanctuary in Ashford, and Jordan was chosen to be its feline director. She’s happy as can be that people aren’t calling OCAR to take their barn cats. “I solved that problem,” she says, “before the sanctuary even opened.”

The Short Afternoon Movie, Part 2 14th Mar 2015, by AnimalCare
Part 1: http://myanimalcare.org/2015/03/02/a-short-aft ernoon-movie/
So, yes, Jia-Wen is awfully bored during his days off in Jeddah. Here’s Part 2…
But before you watch the movie, I have to give you a bit of background to the cat “world” in his eyes. He is in Team Bunny and he is totally convinced that Ginger is a mastermind of evil (what??? Noooo……!!!!) and that whenever Ginger sits in front of the grille, he is not trying to make friends, but taunting and ...

Is This The Culprit? 14th Mar 2015, by AnimalCare
So we said it has to be either Cleo or Indy who scratched Cow’s eye. The vet said there was a scratch across the eye (could be new or a scar from the December Indy-fight incident).
We forgot another possibility….
This cat…and yes, she scratches from outside the grille.
And if she doesn’t get you, she will remember and swipe you later.
You know who it is, don’t you?
I’m not saying her name lest she swipes me later….*shivers*!
Was it the swiper who scr...
