Elephant Weeps While Being Rescued After 50 Years Of Mistreatment 8th Jul 2014, by SPCA Singapore
Raju, an elephant in India, breaks into tears....
as he is FINALLY set free after 50 years of being
- fitted with painful shackles, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week;
- possibly greatly malnourished;
- physically repressed;
and emotionally strained.
We, too, applaud the liberation of Raju from his keeper, made possible by UK-based animal charity, WIldlife SOS. But, we know no amount of gratitude from any one of us could even match that expressed by Raju - the very instant he sensed freedom at las...

SHE HOLDS THEM, EACH AND EVERY ONE
Norica Prigoana lives and breaths for the dogs, subjecting herself to such such emotionally difficult experiences as she delivers carefully prepared meals to the dogs at the public dog pound in Gherla, Romania. The dogs all beg for Norica to come to them when she arrives. It's not really the food they're after. It's the affection. She holds them, each and every one of them. This love, and the meal that follows, is the highlight of their day.
Yes, Norica is th...

Otto Visits! 8th Jul 2014, by AnimalCare
You know how it is that I’ve been trying to stop our inside cats from chasing Otto and Igor (the two shrews) when they come into Bunny’s Place to play and eat leftover kibble? I’ve been reprimanding the cats whenever they chased the shrews.
Well, take a look at what happened today.
As I was doing my work, I heard the familiar clackity sound…
Hi Otto!
And Bunny and Indy just watched while Otto went clackity-clackity-clack, enjoy the kibbles.
Even Pole did not ...

9 Years Old Labrador Available For Adoption. He Ma.. 7th Jul 2014, by MDDB & MCCP Penang
9 years old Labrador available for adoption. He may be senior at age, but definitely young at heart.
Why you should adopt a senior dog?
1. They need a home just as badly as younger dogs
2. Older dogs are not necessarily “problem dogs” as many tend to think. Senior dogs lose their homes for a variety of reasons, usually having nothing to do with their behavior or temperament, but more due to the fact that their owners are unable to keep them for reasons including: the novelty of owning a dog...

Willy Visits Again! 7th Jul 2014, by AnimalCare
It’s been quite sometime since Willy last visited, but today, as I was leaving the house this evening, I saw Willy waiting for me at the neighbour’s drain.
He was sitting and it looked like he was waiting for me to come out.
Hi Willy!! Long time!!
For those who don’t know who Willy is, he’s a little all-ginger cat who came to the playground many, many months ago. He was thin at the time, so I started feeding him and slowly lured him nearer to our house. Then, I discovered...

A shout out to all running enthusiasts and running groups!
" Hello everyone! I've been running various races for the past few years. However, ever since I joined ACRES, I've channeled this passion to raise funds and awareness for the animals. I head the Macaque Team and as i go on with my job, I see a huge need to preserve and protect our own native wildlife in Singapore. You've read about them in the news and seen them (especially if you do your runs in nature reserves!). The struggle for huma...

SPCA rescues a mynah from canal's waters
We were alerted, at 5pm today (July 7, 2014), to a mynah spotted struggling in the running waters of a canal along Airport Road.
Our rescue pair, upon arriving at the scene, promptly used a netted catchpole, along with some strategy, to try to haul the bird out of its predicament. Apart from appearing to be shaken by the experience, the mynah is unable to flap its wings for the time being.
Our rescue van is in the midst of taking the mynah to the r...

And The Pets Of The Homeless Are Not Forgotten Too… 7th Jul 2014, by AnimalCare
Kudos to Reach Out for thinking of the pets of the homeless too!
http://www.therakyatpost.com/news/2014/07/06/ reach-reaches-poor-every-day-rain-shine/
While the majority of Malaysians were glued to their television screens nationwide to watch the Argentina-Belgium World Cup match yesterday, Nicoll led the team, which had then broken into smaller groups, to provide packets of food to the homeless, with some carrying cat food as well.
“Many of these homeless adopt kittens and dogs as their pet...

Firefighter Adopts Puppy After Rescuing Him
A puppy rescued from a fire has new life after a firefighter decided to adopt the injured dog.
Maj. Kyle Durham knows firsthand how much damage fire can cause.
The veteran firefighter had no idea what was in store for his family’s future when he responded to a shed fire: a litter of week-old puppies trapped inside.
“We started hearing a little bit of whimpering coming from there so we dug them out.” Durham said.
Two puppies survived the flam...

Updates On 7th Jul 2014 7th Jul 2014, by WWF Malaysia
It's tough to be a Turtle Guardian - long hours of patrolling and monitoring means trekking up and down long stretch of beaches in the dark every night which can be extremely tiring, camping on the beach while being buffered by strong winds and heavy rain, cooking your own food and sometimes getting bitten by sandflies. Some locations have limited or no phone connection.
Despite these challenges, they continue to strive for the sake of our turtles. Being a Turtle Guardian is harder than it look...

Dog Bite Prevention Tip #4 (a fortnightly feature by SPCA)
- AVOID INAPPROPRIATE PLAY!
In this photo, the human is playing inappropriately with the dog. One’s hands, fingers and feet are not toys! The dog is clearly stressed – its ears are folded far back. If such inappropriate play continues, what started off as playful, or rough, play may lead to a bite.
Be polite to a dog. Learn to read its body language and take steps to help your dog be comfortable in every-day situations, through f...
