It's great to see so many schools and kindergartens here in Singapore including animal protection issues in their lessons and inviting ACRES to talk to their students. Today we were at Chatsworth International School (Orchard) to talk about the needs of animals and why wild animals are not pets. Thank you to the students for their lively participation and great questions, and to the teachers for the warm welcome! To find out more about our educational programmes for schools please go to http://w...

Hi guys, thanks for your alerts but please stop flooding our Wall with the photos of the Section17 dog, yes we're aware of this case and we will investigate. We need a witness statement, thus far we have not had anyone come forward. Also having the dog examined by a vet immediately is crucial as the report can be used to support the case, so the dog needs to be located asap!

Updates On 9th Mar 2012 9th Mar 2012, by SPCA Singapore
We are often posed this question about how long pets live?
If cared for properly, with the right diet, exercise, vet check-ups and lots of love and affection, you can expect to share many wonderful years with your pet.
A dog or a cat will live 10-20 years, a rabbit 5-10 years, guinea pigs about 6 years, chincillas 8-15 years and a hamster about 2 years.
Remember, a pet is a lifetime of commitment.

Updates On 9th Mar 2012 9th Mar 2012, by SPCA Sarawak
Many people send off their pets to the town councils knowing full well that they might be killed off but as long as the animals are not killed in front of them or they didn't kill the animals themselves, they're kind and caring animal lovers. And for those who claim ignorance that they didn't know the animals will be killed, Section 5 of The City of Kuching South (Dog Licence) By-Laws, 1990 states that any impounded animal which is not claimed with 48 hours from the issuance of the impounding no...

Updates On Amira’s 11 Cats/kittens 9th Mar 2012, by AnimalCare
I managed to speak with our vet regarding Amira’s cats/kittens. Client confidentiality is to be respected, so our vet cannot reveal details. Suffice to say that one kitten (who passed on yesterday) was already dying and could not be saved, but the rest was not in dire straits at all. It was just a case of needing proper advice on how to manage the herd.
Amira said the little one passed on after her mother nursed her. Sad, but it has already happened and all things happen for a reason. Let&...

Welcome To Bunny’s New Garden 9th Mar 2012, by AnimalCare
Today, Bunny’s Garden got “repaired”….
The Philippine grass we had planted when we first moved in gradually died. I think it was due to the place being too shady, the poor water drainage from the soil as well as Cow and Bobby’s urine!
Anyway, our landscaper said Pearl Grass would be the only type that we could try growing in this shady part of the compound.
So, Pearl Grass it is….
Welcome to my new garden…
We had these stepping stones placed on the la...

Updates on the little one, Alien:
Hi there Dr Chan,
I’ve been wanting to send you some updates on Alien aka Ally Ann for some time now, but have been very occupied.
On a whole she’s doing much better now and I’ve started her on wet food. But this has caused her to have soft stools. I’m hoping to move on to dry kibble (mixed with water) soon and hope that her stools will improve.
Baby Alien at about 10 days old – weighs 100g, abandoned by her mother. (Said to be suffering from Hyd...

Before We Spread Any News About Cruelty To Animals, Please Be Informed Of The Consequences 8th Mar 2012, by AnimalCare
In the course of running AnimalCare, I sometimes receive requests from readers to spread the news of people who have afflicted cruelty to animals. Sometimes these news come with photographic evidence of the victims (the animals) and the perpetrators (the humans), along with the story of the cruel act.
While I understand that the intention to publicise such stories is good (ie. to stop the act), we must always be careful when spreading such news.
Please also be informed that it is in our policy t...

The Story Of Bobby (Megaa Velayuthan’s) 8th Mar 2012, by AnimalCare
This is not my 16 year-old mixed poodle, Bobby, but Megaa Velayuthan’s cat, who is also named Bobby!
There may be something in the name “Bobby” as my Bobby (the dog) nurses baby kittens and Megaa’s Bobby also nurses kittens!
And both Bobbys are males, too!
Enjoy the following little story from Megaa:
Bobby came to us when he was about 2months old in Sept 2009. I found him from Petfinder, looking for a home, a college student who was leaving to UK took a good care of him....

Ref: http://myanimalcare.org/2012/03/05/fitri-goe s-home-photos/
Fitri is now home with Myza and is well on his way to recovery. His journey in battling sporotrichosis has been a rather long one, but what matter is that he is well enough now.
We have subsidised RM105 for this final bill of RM525.
Myza applied to three funds for Fitri’s treatment so our subsidy is 20% (from each fund, making up a total of 60% as per our Multiple Fund policy).
Our total subsidy for Fitri is RM405.
