Updates On Karuna, The Old Dog
10th Jul 2011, by AnimalCare

In the midst of having so much to do and what with the historic Bersih Rally on Saturday (been reading all the inspiring and touching stories of true unity), I forgot to post updates on Karuna, the old dog rescued after being bitten by a pack of wild dogs at the playground near the temple.  I visited Karuna on Friday after work and she seemed much better.  I took photos too, but they turned out too dark as the lights had fused in the boarding area.  The vet said they will proceed ...

Koda And Winter, Two White Cats For Adoption
10th Jul 2011, by AnimalCare

Koda and Winter go back a long way with rescuer, Punitha.  They are both adorable and....white (we know certain colours go more easily - that's reality).Koda is 4 months old and will be neutered soon.  Winter is 7 months and already neutered.  Both are males.  Both are also toilet-trained (litter - sand).  They know how to use the scratch-post and are therefore "furniture safe"!  Koda and Winter are sociable (not timid around strangers) and friendly around other cat...

Health Benefits Of Spaying And Neutering
10th Jul 2011, by Second Chance

Some pet owners are not aware of the advantages of spaying or neutering their pet. A spayed or neutered pet does not become fat or lazy. Their metabolism may slow down a bit but all you have to do to keep that trim look is cut back a little on the food. In addition to the obvious advantage of preventing unwanted pregnancies, there are health and behavioral benefits:1) Spaying or neutering is foolproof birth control that lasts a lifetime.2) Spaying or neutering provides relief from such hormone d...

Cow Mau, The Pussy-Cat...sometimes!
10th Jul 2011, by AnimalCare

Thank you, everyone, for writing in to offer tips on how to give the COW a pill.  We only lost one round on Day 4, but regained our "seat" of success in the afternoon that.  The carrier trick still works.  He's such a pussy-cat when we put him into the carrier, and he takes his pills, after a few efforts!  Yesterday, he was almost in a most sorry state when he did not come in for breakfast with the rest, but sat in the living room, looking really forlorn.  Poor Cow....14...

Nandhini's phone had been ringing almost non-stop ever since I put up the posting on Kimba.  A total of NINE people have offered to either foster or adopt the cute little blue-point kitten who was rescued from the middle of the road.  The first to call in was Sharon, minutes after my posting was up.  After vetting through all the potential offers, Nandhini decided to let Sharon adopt Kimba since she has children who love pets and can play with Kimba, and Sharon also has a poodle, ...

A Reflection On Queenie's Case
9th Jul 2011, by AnimalCare

There is a comment on our posting on Queenie's unfortunate passing after being spayed.  The commentor suggested that the animals be boarded at the vet's instead of being discharged.  When we first started, I did ask for boarding, but our vets advised against this due to the following reasons:1.  There is no 24-hour monitoring at their clinics.  Most clinics close at 7pm and the animals are left on their own through the night.  The clinics only open at about 10am the next...

A Successful Cat-Catching Attempt At Pantai Hillpark
9th Jul 2011, by AnimalCare

From Koo:As per our appointment, I arrived at 7.30pm sharp yesterday (Thursday,7 July) to the guard entrance of Sis Nui's apartment block inKerinchi.  Along the way, I noticed there were many food stalls (noshortage of food supply for the cats) along the road, heavy (foot andcar) traffic (constant danger to the strays) everywhere which islikely the result of a concentration of high-rise living quarters.I was waiting at the guardhouse for Sis Nui to fetch me when Iobserved a curious scene. &...

Queenie, Spayed....and Lost
9th Jul 2011, by AnimalCare

Yesterday, Joanne sent one of the factory dogs, Queenie, to be spayed at the vet in Klang.  Joanne wrote to me last night:Queenie was taken her weight, 14kg and given her vaccination. She was a little afraid but still calm as she is used to people and luckily my foreign worker colleague who always feed Queenie followed me to the clinic. The vet said Queenie can be picked up after 2pm. We picked Queenie up ard 5.30pm today and she was wagging her tail when she saw us. I took a...

Motherless Puppies Found Near Tesco Klang AND FRIM Puppies
9th Jul 2011, by Malaysian Dogs Deserve Better

These seven puppies were found near Tesco Klang making a lot of noise probably because they were hungry. They mother were nowhere to see even though the person who went to pick them looked around and waited at the area for a while. We reckon the mother must have been caught by the local council dog catchers. This is not the first time we have found motherless puppies. Although we normally wait for puppies to be at least 2 months before putting them up for adoption, we are going to put these litt...

Private Zoo Opts To Surrender Its Animals
9th Jul 2011, by Animal Concerns Research & Education Society (ACRES)

We are pleased that Lye Huat Gardens in Malaysia has closed their zoo and surrendered the animals to the authorities. Conditions at the zoo were some of the worst we saw during our extensive surveys of zoos in Malaysia and the welfare of the animals was severely compromised. There was little opportunity for improvement, so we believe closing the zoo was the best course of action.

Ah Wong
8th Jul 2011, by Second Chance

Sam recently crossed paths with an emaciated looking mama dog (nicknamed Ah Wong). She also has a maggot wound but around her genital area. Attached are some pics which speak louder than words! We did not exaggerate when the word "emaciated" is used, she's literally all skin and bones. The genital area is swollen and bleeding with maggot wound. She is an old semi-stray and has been fed by one of the uncles. According to this uncle, the dog has now become anorexic since she gave birth to a black p...
