Senior White @ Milky Kiai, One Of Our Selayang Pound Rescues
17th Jun 2011, by AnimalCare

On 25th February 2010, we took out 23 puppies due to be euthanised at the Selayang Pound.  In collaboration with MDDB, these puppies were sent for treatment and those who survived were subsequently rehomed.  Sad to say, many of the puppies did not survive despite being given the necessary treatment at our panel vets.   Most of them died of tick fever, distemper, diarrhoea, etc., diseases that afflict street animals.  It drove home the point that stray animals lead such a horr...

Jenny (injured Puppy) Is Transferred From PJ To Subang Jaya
16th Jun 2011, by AnimalCare

Today has been an incredibly hectic day for me.  The dumping of the 5 kittens really threw me off balance and upset my entire schedule for the day.  I had sought a second opinion about Jenny from our panel vet and was told amputation would be the better choice for Jenny.  Another option is to do what is known as ankylosis but this would take 5-6 months to heal and I don't think Jenny would like that.  Upon discussion with Mei Leng, she agreed that we transfer Jenny to our pan...

16th Jun 2011, by AnimalCare

Two nights ago Amy borrowed one of our traps and managed to catch a female cat in her neighbourhood.  She has been trying to catch this cat for two years....so, finally!!Apparently, this cat was so aggressive she climbed all over the clinic!  And vet had to sedate her quickly and get her spayed.  She was just beyond control...probably so angry at being trapped! When CNRM doesn't work, it would have to be TNRM.  Here she is when first caught.  Amy used fried fish as bait. ...

The Five Kittens Are Active And Very Much Alive (dumped In Styrofoam Box)
16th Jun 2011, by AnimalCare

I had to arrange for boarding for the five kittens that were dumped in front of my gate (in a styrofoam box this morning) because they have diarrhoea and the flu.   Here they are at the first clinic.  Our vet has already dewormed all of them.  Hopefully, the diarrhoea is due to worms and not a viral infection. They have also been fed small amounts of Baby Cat, and are very strong and active now.  This is a far cry compared to this morning when my husband had first found t...

This Is What Some "Humans" Do
16th Jun 2011, by AnimalCare

This morning, while I was at work, my husband called to tell me someone had dumped a box of five kittens in front of our gate.  The five kittens were placed in the styrofoam box you see in the photo above, with a big rock on the lid.  How can they breathe in a covered styrofoam box?The kittens looked dirty and quite sickly and were very weak when my husband found them.  They felt extremely hot (because the styrofoam is not porous) and could barely move.  He texted me and I to...

Reprinting Pawprints On My Heart (my First Book)
16th Jun 2011, by AnimalCare

Pawprints on My Heart was written in 2008.  It tells the stories of my childhood pets and my rescue and caregiving work.  It is my first non-academic book (there have been five more after that, and no more academic books!!).   Since then, a total of 12,000 copies of Pawprints have been published, all for free distribution, and the sponsors have been all my friends and well-wishers.  Writing books is my personal interest and I have never used AnimalCare's f...

Playtime For The Sunny Kittens
16th Jun 2011, by AnimalCare

This morning, I tried to teach the Sunny Kittens to lap milk from a dish.  After all, Rex has stopped sucking from the bottle.  And this morning, Honeybear (!) did not want to suck as well.   Come, kitties....it's milk. Nah...they weren't interested.  Honeybear tried later, and splashed the milk all over the floor, and then he shook his little paw!  It always starts off this way... Rex can lap, but he did not quite want to do it.  I'm syringe-feeding ...

Emergency - Puppy Rescue From Puchong To PJ (fosterer Needed Urgently)
16th Jun 2011, by AnimalCare

I met Koo and Mei Leng as they brought the rescued puppy from Puchong to Subang Jaya.  Then, I led them to the clinic in PJ where there is an emergency call-up service.   Koo and Mei Leng bringing in the puppy. Here's the puppy.  Gosh, she is so tame.  Koo said she barely put up any struggle when he caught her.  What Koo did was to lure her under a car.  It's easier to catch them once they are under a car as they would only be able to crawl.  Then, you grab...

Market CNRM - Return To Market Day 2
16th Jun 2011, by AnimalCare

Ah Fatt helped pick up the 6 cats (5 females and 1 male, all spayed-neutered, but this includes 2 previously-spayed females whose ears have now been notched) and sent them back to the market at 8pm this evening. We met him there.   Here are four of them. Another two. This little boy is Ah Fatt's youngest son.  He's learning the ropes from his dad, obviously.  Look at that adorable little kitten.  He's come to greet his friends again. Deciding where to put w...
