Does your dog have tonnes of tricks up his/her sleeve, or can he/she perform so many tricks that you've lost count of the commands he/she knows? Is your dog a performer who would love his/her one minute of fame on stage? Thousands Of New Breeds (of Dogs) In Costa Rica – A Unique Way To Promote Adoption Of Rescued Dogs!
4th Sep 2013, by AnimalCare

Let’s watch and learn, folks: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RPrvT9P4JI Q It all boils down to perception. It is easy for us to say, “What’s in a breed? A dog (or cat) by any name would smell as sweet” (apologies to Shakespeare for the tweak) but is it easy to convince “brand-conscious” people that any dog/cat would be just as good? We can talk until the cows come home and brand-conscious people will not be convinced. So, a shelter in Costa Rica devised an i...

Medical Subsidy For Beaten Dog, Jackie (Lester Hiew Thiam Hock & Jenny Khong Chin Chin’s)
4th Sep 2013, by AnimalCare

Lester Hiew called me yesterday regarding Jackie, one of the orphanage dogs whose family we have visited before when Lester took us for a tour of the many colonies that he and his mum look after. According to Lester and based on the wound, someone had probably beaten Jackie with a blunt object and left her leg broken. Lester was sourcing for a vet who is good in handling bone injuries. On a side note, when we visited this particular orphanage colony, Lester and his mum had already said these dog...

ANGELS SAVE BLIND DOG ABOUT TO STEP INTO TRAFFIC! LIKE our page now for more happy endings! https://www.facebook.com/GreatAnimalRescu eChase Anyone could see by looking that Calrose that he was blind. The tiny white dog had eyes like a cloudy sky and he walked slowly, not sure if that next step might take him down a deep hole or onto a hot surface. But after months of somehow managing to stay alive on the streets, Calrose was suddenly lifted by angels. One animal lover noticed the little on...

Plan B For Timmy
3rd Sep 2013, by AnimalCare

I plead guilty and I ask for no mercy. My negligence has resulted in Timmy gaining weight over the last two weeks. With the semester having started and having to leave the house early, I failed to monitor breakfast at the patio and Timmy had been doing his merry-go-round Musical Bowls stint again, resulting in him eating up left-overs or simply snatching another cat’s food by staring the cat down. It doesn’t look so bad from this angle…. But yes, he has definitely gained wei...

Having spent most of his life on the balcony, this dog knew only the four glass walls that surrounded him. Our inspectors arrived on the scene in June 2011 after receiving a call from a concerned resident living in the same condominium, and tried to contact the dog's owner several times. Their efforts were to no avail, and we alerted the AVA. In the following months, we gathered evidence to boost our case against the owner and kept our liaison with the AVA as the owner continued to keep his d...

Hello all! So many rumors flying around saying that we are going to euthanise all our animals before rebuilding the shelter, that's utter nonsense. We had to stop accepting new animals two months ago, and our staff and volunteers have worked really hard to rehome all but 48 dogs and 6 cats into family homes and animal sanctuaries! Please now help us spread this positive news, instead of all the negativity and panic :)

A (motorised) Bug Invades Bunny’s Place!
3rd Sep 2013, by AnimalCare

A friend sent me a toy bug for the cats to play with. It’s actually a motorised bug, powered by a watch battery. It’s called “Wild Mouse”, but it looks more like a cockroach to me! According to the picture, even if it falls on its back, it will turn over by itself! COOL!! As with everything new that is brought in, our quality assurance supervisor must run a check first. It’s a bug alright…just not a cockroach, because it has so many legs. It’s an ALIE...

Ref: http://myanimalcare.org/2013/07/31/medical-s ubsidy-for-georgie-the-dog-in-kota-samarahan-siti- azura-juihs/ On July 31st, Azura wrote to let us know that she will be attempting to get the street dogs neutered. However, because she is unable to foster dogs, she foresaw that she would need to board the dogs after the surgery so that they can recover before releasing them back to the colony. Since we could not cover boarding under our policy, we blogged this news (link above) and Dr Alida Ma...
