Deconstructing Max 6th Nov 2012, by AnimalCare
Some updates from Lydia on Mighty Max:
Hi Kah Yein,
Just a quick update before I get all the 4paw kids sorted out at home and rush off to work.
We did a blood test for Max last Thurs as the palpable lump in Max’s abdomen has been bothering me and so I brought Max to the nearest trusted vet to us. The test results were to come back aday or two after so we happily headed off to PD with Max, Hopie and Momo in tow.
When we got back on Mon I called the clinic and was told that Max’s pa...

Fur flew all over ...

Meet Peanut!
Despite his name, at 35.5cm in length Peanut is actually the largest tortoise at the AWRC. He’s a fully-grown red-footed tortoise- a species native to South America- rescued just over 4 months ago. So, why the name? Well, we think his shell is shaped a bit like a peanut!
Peanut loves to sit in his water dish for most of the day, and we are looking forward to letting him explore his new 5 x 10m enclosure once it’s ready.

When size matters!
We’ve been busy with the tape measures, measuring up the rescued tortoises at the ACRES Wildlife Rescue Centre to see who can go where in the outdoor enclosures we’re preparing for them. We want them to feel as comfortable as possible!
Can you guess the sizes of our smallest and biggest tortoises? Meet little and large: Peanut and Tiny Tot!
Tiny Tot is one of the many star tortoises at the AWRC. Their pretty shells make them popular as pets, but they are not suit...

VERY Urgent: Mighty Max Needs A Blood Donor 5th Nov 2012, by AnimalCare
Updates at 6pm: Max’s repeat blood test shows a tiny improvement from last Thursday’s reading to today’s. Connie James has offered her dog as a blood donor tomorrow. Thank you very much, Connie! Max’s PCV today was 12%, which is a slight improvement from the test done on Thursday. The PCV of a healthy dog is between 37% and 55%. That is why Max had always been pale.
