Updates On Annie 13th Sep 2011, by AnimalCare
I received the following updates about Annie from KTAJ's founder, Nerq Suzana: Annie was brought to the vet (the same one where she had boarded for 6 days after her rescue) and given antibiotics. Annie may have parvo virus, but the vet said she appears to be fine. I have offered to get the RetroMAD1 for Annie should she need it. We hope Annie gets well soon.

A Sporo Cat From The Market, Neutered 13th Sep 2011, by AnimalCare
Ah Fatt had earlier requested sponsorship to spay-neuter 6 market cats, but he could not catch any until today. One cat was caught and brought to our panel vet. It's a male cat. However, the vet called to inform me that the cat has a few spots of what appears to be sporotrichosis. The vet said the neutering can proceed, so the cat has been neutered.I have advised Ah Fatt on the implications, the (usually) prolonged treatment and what needs to be done for a sporo cat. He says he will discuss w...

Pretty Mama, Female Cat For Adoption (Jessy Lian's) 13th Sep 2011, by AnimalCare
From Jessy Lian:Dear Dr.Chan,Do you still remember about Pretty Mama that I mention to you a few weeks back? She's another mother cat that I feed beside Mama X. More than 2 weeks ago, I found her kitten's dead body under my dad's car (with her sitting next to it). I then buried it nearby down the road. She was so sad that she spend the next few days calling/crying out loud. I pacify her with Fussie Cat canned food, pat her and talk to her (eg: don't worry, everything's fine now, your baby i...

Panda was one of the cats rescued from the Pet Boarding tragedy on that fateful day about ten days ago. I published Panda's photo and his owners, Sofea and Izrul wrote to me all the way from Sabah, to tell me that Panda was their pet. Here's updates from Sofea today:Hi Dr. Chan,These are some of Panda's pics taken after a week of that incident. I've been taking Panda to 2 different Vets rig...

An urgent appeal from Jessy Lian:This afternoon around 5pm I was about to go out to the pet shop (restock some pet food), when I open the door & I saw a brown kitten meowing & squeeze himself under my gate and came towards me. I have never seen this kitten before! And it seems like he know me & know that I could help him.But I already had my hands full & certainly are not able to foster/adopt him. Updates On 13th Sep 2011 13th Sep 2011, by SPCA Sarawak
You must understand - you will pay to bring your animal to our shelter. Many people seem to be under the misconception that things related to an animal shelter are free. The cost to maintain an animal shelter is incredible. The shelter must pay for food, vet bills, rent, insurance, medication, heat, electric, phone, website, advertising, staff, and hundreds of other things that all businesses have to pay for.

IOI Mall Adoption This Sunday 13th Sep 2011, by Second Chance
Hi all, please please do help spread this to your friends and families. Our shelter is extremely overcrowded and just 3 weeks ago we had more than 20 very sickly dogs dumped at us without any notice. There are just too many of them for us to handle at the moment and as most of us are volunteers that have full time job, we’re not able to give the furry frens the care, attention and love that they deserved. If you or your friend/family members happened to be looking for a pet, please do consider...

Dogs in heatFemale dogs are "in heat" when they have entered the fertile part of their reproductive cycle. A heat lasts for 3 weeks on average and a dog will usually go into heat every 6 to 8 months. Most breeds have their first heat at about 6 months old but it may be earlier or later.A heat can usually be identified when there is some bleeding from the vagina, a swollen vulva or increased urination. Female dogs do not produce very much blood however, and in a small dog you may not eve...

Two Baby Kittens And A 15-Year Old Blind Dog 13th Sep 2011, by AnimalCare
First thing this morning, as I was preparing Bobby and the adult cats' breakfast, I heard loud mewing from the room...it's the Blueys. They're really smart now and know how to ask for what they want! These two are definitely more demanding than the Sunnies. The Sunnies were....aristo-kittens. A real class act in their own right! So what did I see when I went into the room?Yup, they are acrobats too. We want out! We want out! After Round One of feeding, it's chilling time with Uncl...

Rescued Dog : Is This Your Dog? 13th Sep 2011, by Second Chance
This lovely gal was rescued from the pound when Ming Yuet and Uncle Wong were at the DBKL dog pound to rescue another of our naughty dog who were caught when wandering outside. The sight of the tiny, skinny and mangy gal broked Ming Yuet’s heart and she couldn’t leave the pound without taking her along. Ming Yuet affectionately call the lovely gal Jelly =). Jelly has since then been vaccinated. Jelly now has silky fur thanks to the mange jabs. Jelly is estimated to be 10 years old. She h...

It's Nestea Now.... 13th Sep 2011, by AnimalCare
A few months ago, it was Lipton Tea. Due to pressure from the animal-loving public, Lipton stopped using animal testing. Now, it's Nestea. From PETA:The company that makes Nestea conducts deadly tea experiments that involve poisoning, electrically shocking, surgically mutilating, and decapitating animals. The Middening Has Stopped! 13th Sep 2011, by AnimalCare
Ref: http://www.myanimalcare.org/2011/08/if-y ou-think-spraying-is-badwait-till.htmlUpdates from my cousin:I'm pleased to report that the middening seems to have stopped. I think what's been going on is a tussle for dominance between the two males. On the one hand, the younger, smaller sized Yevaud who was our first adoptee. And on the other, the tabby Odin, who's older and heavier-set and who looks that he might have strains of a Bengal cat ancestry. (Each of them has a female sidekick and...
