7th Aug 2011, by AnimalCare

The long-awaited movie....If you have not watched but intend to do so, do not read on.Important: Do NOT leave the cinema the moment the credits come up - there is some more and that's the last part which is really important. Today, one-third of the audience left and missed this part!  The price of vivisection...Looking at the amount and extent of cruelty inflicted by humans on animals through the ages, whether it is through vivisection or other forms of cruelty (and this includes eatin...

7th Aug 2011, by Homeless & Orphan Pets Exist (HOPE)

Another sad and horrible case that we’ve encountered! This poor little dog named Xiao Qiang was found by a kind hearted lady two days ago behind a staircase. He had two huge wounds on his two hind legs. Red raw flesh were exposed and bone can been seen. Furthermore, one of his eye was blind. He was in very bad condition – extremely thin and miserable. Obviously he had not eaten any food for a long time. Xiao Qiang was rushed to the vet clinic immediately. After an immediate examination and x-...

Christopher You Broke Our Hearts…
7th Aug 2011, by Dr Rayya's Online Veterinary Journal

Today we were filled with sorrow because ‘Christopher‘, our famous guinea pig deteriorated in spite of all our efforts. He had improved over the first two weeks but since friday, he started to go downhill. Today, Erin & Dave, his god parents were horrified to see he had developed a pressure sore over his right hip and was losing clumps of fur around his rear. Erin had been extra judicious at checking him and bathing him regularly and giving him physiotherapy. He had also suddenly...

A Street Kitten....now, Safe And Sound
7th Aug 2011, by AnimalCare

Prem has been looking after a street kitten and she was worried the kitten isn't street-smart enough to fend for herself. So, she called yesterday asking if we could help find a fosterer and later, an adopter. What great timing, because Aimy is coming all the way from Gombak today and Aimy is a cat-fosterer.  So it was arranged.Prem had already got the kitten spayed, vaccinated, dewormed and is certified in very good health. Here she is. Want to adopt her, please contact Aimy on 019...

4 Kittens Vaccinated
7th Aug 2011, by AnimalCare

Aimy was asking me about vaccination for kittens. Since she does fostering, it pays to have her cats and kittens vaccinated. So, today, Aimy brought 6 kittens to be vaccinated under our subsidised rate. Two were not vaccinated because one was Gwen (former Popsy Tortoiseshell) who had already been vaccinated and another had diarrhoea.  So, only four were vaccinated. This one was vaccinated. Is this Princess (from Jessy Lian)? And another three from here. The three white ones were vacc...

More "Stormy" And Heroic Ones!
7th Aug 2011, by AnimalCare

I went to our panel vet two days ago, and was told another interesting tale by the vet's assistant when I enquired over Citta and mum.Remember I wrote a few days ago that Citta had made a great escape from her cage and freed her mum as well and both were caught playing in the ward?Well, Citta made another great escape...AGAIN! She suspects the only way Citta could have got out of this enclosure would be to have kangaroo-jumped out from the top. Can you imagine such a feat?Look at how high i...

The Dog Who Cornered Osama
7th Aug 2011, by AnimalCare

This is from a forwarded email; the article is written by Alan Parker. I've blogged about this before when Osama was first captured, but not with so many details. When U.S. President Barack Obama went to Fort Campbell, Kentucky, last week for a highly publicized, but very private meeting with the commando team that killed Osama bin Laden, only one of the 81 members of the super-secret SEAL DevGru unit was identified by name: Cairo, the war dog.Cairo, like most canine members of the elite U.S. Nav...

Persian Mix Found...has Mange
7th Aug 2011, by AnimalCare

Punitha found a Persian mix cat at her office area yesterday. The cat has mange. From Punitha:  I've attached pictures of the female cat with mange that I found today. She's not a pretty sight (yet) but Dr.Edmund says she will look stunning after completing her (one a week) jabs. She's a persian-mix, long-haired and is very sweet and gentle. She's probably an abandoned pet, don't you think? We've never had long-haired cats around office before. Owner probably didn't know h...

A Haven For TNR-Ed Cats At Washington Heights
7th Aug 2011, by AnimalCare

Never say "Oh, that's in the US so it can be done, but over here, no way!" - never say that, because if we do, it will really not be done here. It's just a convenient excuse for us NOT to do anything. We have to do it, and to keep pushing for it, and one day, it will be done. When I first started AnimalCare, I was also told it will never succeed and I will not be able to get the support. When I first wanted to raise funds through the tshirts, I was also told nobody would buy our tshirts....S...

Puppy Food For Din's Puppies (sent Today)
6th Aug 2011, by AnimalCare

Ever since Chew contacted me over Din's need of help to buy puppy food for the 8 orphaned puppies that he was willing to foster, I have been working at getting funds to help him. This morning, we raised enough, through friends, to purchase two big packs of puppy food for the 8 puppies, which we trust will last them for a few weeks. However, two of the puppies are sick and have been sent to the vet while 6 are still with Din. Chew came over to collect the food from Subang Jaya and he sent the foo...

Pending Puppy
6th Aug 2011, by Dr Rayya's Online Veterinary Journal

Here I was enjoying an afternoon nap after a very big day and I woke up to the vibrations of my mobile phone. I had just missed a call from Alana who was on emergency call. At my clinic, vets do their utmost best to support each other round the clock; that can range from a simple phone consultation about a complex case or being called in to assist in a difficult surgery. I instantly called her back and she had a caesarean to do and the nurse on call was too far away. Everyone feels terribly...

A Case Of A Disappearing Act With A Happy Ending!
6th Aug 2011, by AnimalCare

Peggy Tiong has been communicating with me over the cats in her colony. Prior to her trip overseas, a white female cat had just given birth to five beautiful white kittens. Since the mother was looking after kittens, all ought to be fine. However, when Peggy came back, she noticed only the mother and the kittens were no where to be seen at all. I told Peggy to observe how frequently the mother would spend time at house and Peggy said it was very frequent. We both feared the worst - that the kitten...
