Home-Cooking Again; Deboning This Time.
12th Mar 2012, by AnimalCare

I joined Andi Brown’s FB exchange on homecooking for pets (actually it’s for dog recipes) and learnt that we should not give cooked bones, even if it is ground. The reason is that even finely ground bones would have sharp fragments and also cooked bones has no more nutritional value. So, this evening, I steamed chicken breast, liver, chicken ribs and after it had cooled, I deboned the ribs. Apparently, I just learnt that by cooking the bones together with the meat, the calcium would ...

A Pregnant Cat And A Little Tail-Less Lizard
11th Mar 2012, by AnimalCare

This evening, my husband wanted to go out for dinner, so we drove to one of the coffee shops nearby. As I alighted from the car, a pregnant cat came mewing towards me. She walked up to my feet and let me pat her. In my heart of hearts, I wish I could take her home and give her a safe place to deliver her babies. But then, what would happen after that? Each time we take an animal home, we must always be prepared to adopt the animal, and in this case, she and her babies, should we fail to find the...

Ref: http://myanimalcare.org/2012/03/11/very-urge nt-kitten-milk-needed-injured-kitten-needs-nursing -care/ We wish to thank everyone who has prayed hard for Brainy ever since this morning. At this moment, Brainy is still hanging on, and fighting for his life. My friend (the anonymous fosterer) has been giving milk and glucose water every 2 hours and keeping Brainy as warm as possible. Brainy responds when he is touched at the spinal area. Otherwise, he is quiet. My friend wrote to me: Just whe...

Its our flag day today and since the first shift, its seems like the collection point at Tampines 1, is raking in the most funds! Let's see which location, the east, the west or the central area, would raise the most funds for the animals today! Thank you volunteers! Have fun and make sure to drink up. It's a warm day today.

11th Mar 2012, by Soi Dog Foundation

Soi Dog's work to end the viciously cruel dog meat trade to Vietnam continues with determination. Our campaign team, working with Thai authorities, is gathering information about how the trade operates and who is responsible for the suffering. One of our team recently spoke to a human victim of the trade, Khun Ball, and heard first hand of the disappearance of her beloved companion Ngean. This is their story... http://www.soidog.org/en/newsletter-sign -up/past-newsletters/03-2012

Homecooking For Our Pets – The Debate About Bones
11th Mar 2012, by AnimalCare

I refer to my post http://myanimalcare.org/2012/03/02/restartin g-on-the-home-cooked-food-again/ There will always be an ongoing debate about feeding bones to your animals. Here’s what I have gathered, though I strongly urge you to seek expert advice before feeding bones to your animals. The below is only a sharing and is by no means, nutritional advice. 1. Raw bone is good for our animals because it contains calcium and bone marrow. Bone marrow has a wonderful quality that is very good f...

One of the most effective ways you can help all the dogs in soi Dog's care is through a monthly sponsorship of one of them. Your sponsorship of around 80 cents a day provides the much needed funding to help carry out the work of helping the neglected and abused animals. http://www.soidog.org/en/sponsor-a-dog-or-cat/ Dooby is just one of the over 300 dogs at the shelter who you can sponsor. Dooby arrived at the shelter in a terrible state, poor love. He had a dreadful fungal infection all ove...

Mixed Practice Keeps You On Your Toes
11th Mar 2012, by Dr Rayya's Online Veterinary Journal

I sure love mixed practice. I have been treating a myriad of cases lately from birdies to doggies and kitty cats. I also received a phone call from one of my favourite clients giving me the heads up that her cows are due to start calving. She had a bad season last year requiring us to help her pull out a quite a few calves. Hopefully we don’t have to be as involved as we were last year because her bank account sure took a beating. Even though it has been awfully quiet on the bookings ...

Unfortunately, there are two animal-hating neighbours in their block  and one of them traps the cats and dump them elsewhere. Recently, Ofie, one of the community cats looked after by Connie and her two children was trapped and dumped by one of these neighbours. The neighbour has refused to reveal where he has dumped Ofie despite the children’s pleas. Pl...
